Goals and Expectations
Listed below are classroom goals and expectations for my class.
Grades: In our fabulous third grade, student grades are intended to reflect academic proficiency. They will indicate what your student knows and is able to do, because of that, our recorded number score will change as students’ make progress toward mastery. On the progress report, the number score will directly indicate a student’s level of mastery. Here are the following precepts about grading and grades:
Reading and Math Programs
The reading program used by Granite School District is Wonders. This program is a guide that teachers use to teach the Utah State Core Curriculum.
The math program used by Granite School District is GoMath! It is a challenging program also based on the Utah State Core Curriculum. It is very important for you to practice math facts with your child. Children should have mastered all addition and subtraction facts to 18, so our focus in third grade will be on multiplication and division facts. In order to do high-level math in the future, it is very important that multiplication facts are memorized. We start multiplication facts immediately.
Star of the Week
I will be assigning your child a week this year to be the class “Star of the Week” on or near his/her birthday or half birthday. This makes that birthday week even more special. I will send an instruction page about “Star of the Week.” Distance Learning students are encouraged to make a poster about themselves.
Classroom Management
My classroom discipline plan is simple and easy to follow. Crestview and my classroom follow important expectations:
It is important that we practice behaviors that need to be improved, and praise is given for positive behaviors. Crestview and my classroom provide a variety of incentives for positive school and classroom behaviors. Students will earn cougar paws, and trips to the Principal.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to work with your children. I am so honored and humbled to spend time with your beautiful children. I am looking forward to a great year of growth and learning with your children this year. Please feel free to contact me with concerns or questions through email or the school. My email is [email protected]. Crestview’s phone number is (385) 646-4804.
Thank you for all your consideration and support,
Carolyn Mulvaney

On the progress report, the number score will directly indicate a student’s level of mastery. Here are the following precepts about grading and grades:
- As the teacher, I will utilize a multitude of evidence to determine a student’s level of proficiency. The evidence includes: assignments, observations, portfolios, assessments, products, discussions, projects, performance tasks, etc.
- Homework is a meaningful independent practice which requires time and effort outside of school but is not scored.
- Points are not deducted for reasons other than a student’s lack of academic mastery.
- Please check your child’s Proficiency Based Growth on the Gradebook webpage. Gradebook is easily found on Crestview’s website, http://schools.graniteschools.org/crestview.
